We're at the 2013 Aruba Partner Summit/AirHeads Conference in lovely *cough* Las Vegas! Looking forward to meeting some old friends, making new ones, and seeing what new stuff Aruba has for the coming year.

By far, my favorite part of this event is the AirHeads portion. The first part of the week is the Partner Summit which is mostly sales focused and will announce new projects and market strategies. But, it's the AirHeads Conference that really makes me excited.

This is only the second year that partners were allowed to come to AirHeads. It's been primarily focused on end-users. Which is what makes it exciting. At AirHeads we actually get to hear from the customer.

School districts, Higher Ed, Retail, Fortune 500 companies - and we get to hear what they have to say about those deployments. Real-life usage from real-life people. It's really exciting to sees what solutions customers have comes up with to solve problems they face.

As an Aruba business partner we may design and install a solution, but it's the customer who LIVES with the solution. It's the customer that see issues and usage scenarios that we'll never see in our labs, or in the limited time that we spend on-site to deploy said solution. So, we get to hear some really cool stories from some really interesting people that have no agenda other than to tell it how it is for them.

Sometime it's good - really good - sometimes it's bad - pretty bad. You really get a chance to see/hear just how the solution you sell is meeting, exceeding, or underperforming in a given situation. Sometimes the customers find the resolution, sometimes they don't, but everybody learns.

I'll keep posting some new interesting stuff this week that I learn at AirHeads. Really looking forward to this!

Manage AirPlay Service On Your WLAN With Aruba AirGroup

Aruba AirGroup™ is a unique enterprise-class capability that leverages zero-configuration networking (zeroconf) to enable services like AirPrint and AirPlay from mobile devices.

What sets Aruba AirGroup apart from other mDNS approaches is its ability to distinguish between shared devices and personal devices. AirGroup goes a step further by employing location relevance, which only shows shared devices in close proximity to the user. This is achieved through Aruba context-aware technology, which identifies user roles, their devices and their locations.

With Aruba AirGroup, the network traffic generated by these services is greatly minimized and the user experience is far more intuitive, taking into account contextual information to define what can be seen and accessed.

We call it "The Dalek". You can call it "AP on a Stick". We also have our own little battery pack for the access point (AP), so no plugging in for power.

This will allow us to easily setup multiple APs at a deployment site at the appropriate height for testing and confirming wireless coverage. While predictive site-survey tools are useful they cannot predict the affect of certain types on construction will have on the RF spectrum in every case. Specifically, in situation where the construction is older.

For sites that would be difficult to predict what the RF coverage would be do to construction materials (wood, concrete, glass, large aquariums, etc.) we would perform a site-survey allowing usto make sure BEFORE we deploy if our design is valid, or if changes need to be made in the number of APs.

Well, we think it cool, anyways!
